Ircinia strobilina
Unlike other sponges, the Bumpy-ball Sponge is a carnivorous sponge. The way that this sponge obtains its nutrients is by eating other, smaller living organisms. Using its spicules, small needle-like anatomical structures, the sponge is able to capture small crustaceans and feed off them. Once the crustacean is captured the cells of the sponge move to that location, and they being to digest the animal. Alongside to being carnivorous, this sponge also obtains its nutrients like all other sponges: when water passes through them, the bacteria in that water get caught by the sponge, and the cells of the sponge use phagocytosis, where each cell individually digests the bacteria.
