PHYLUM MOLLUSCA
The word mollusca comes from the Latin Molluscus meaning soft of body. Animals in the mollusca phylum have bodies with more than two cell layers, tissues and organs. Also, they obtain a body without cavity and their bodies are monomeric and highly variable in form and may possess dorsal or lateral shells of protein and calcareous spicules. Also, members of the molluscs phylum have a nervous system with a circum-oesophagal ring, ganglia and paired nerve chords and have a pair of kidneys. Finally, animals in the molluscs phylum reproduce normally sexual and gonochoristic and live in most environments. |
